Zafra:

1 Cosecha de caña de azúcar: vamos mi amor a la zafra, tenemos que levantar todo el dulzor de la tierra cuajado en las fibras del cañaveral.

Huh?

Zafra is a harvest of ideas from the mind of Andrew E. Colarusso: writer, educator, and editor. He is author of The Sovereign (Dalkey Archive Press), a novel exploring Puerto Rico’s colonial history and its unmapped future. Along with Thiahera Nurse, Andrew was awarded Northwestern University’s 2018 Drinking Gourd Chapbook Poetry Prize for his collection Creance; or, Comest Thou Cosmic Nazarite. In 2022 his collection of short stories Souvenirs (co-authored with poet Karen An-hwei Lee) was published by Baobab Press. And his first full collection of poems, Hívado, was published by Flood Editions. Black Body Index, an artist edition of essays and poems (with diagrams by Iris Wright) will be published by Book Works UK in 2023. He is also founder and editor-in-chief of The Broome Street Review, a New York City based literary journal published from 2009 to 2017.
